What's in my Hospital Bag?

Ah, the main bulk of the whole packing for the hospital. I packed a total of three bags: the diaper bag, clothing bag, and misc bag. On top of that, there's the pillows that wouldnt fit in a bag. And of course, the carseat (which i dont have a picture of soley because it's outside in the car and with the temps already hitting 90 at 930 am, I've deemed it too hot to go outside :P)

First up is the clothing bag. I managed to fit Hubs and my clothes into one medium sized duffel bag. This is of course, assuming that we only stay for one night at most.

The magical duffel bag

I degsinated this little pocket for this one chapstick. I've read
EVERYWHERE that chapstick is the one thing that moms
forget to pack and desperately need while birthing. Putting it
in this pocket will make it easy for hubs to find while I'm
screaming bloody mary lol.

A wetbag for laundry and cheap underwear for the post-partum
bleeding. I bought this 7 pack for I think 5 bucks or so. I won't be
feeling too butthurt if I have to toss them ;)

Fuzzy socks with rubber non-slip blobs at the bottom.

A large fluffy towel. I've read that the hospital ones are a bit
small and on the thin side. I like my towels big and fluffy lol

Hub's clothing pile. He has swimming trucks, an extra t-shirt,
lounging pants, boxers and socks. He loves loves loves his
green socks. In all seriousness, he only wears white socks when
he has to wear his PT uniform.

Pajamas for me. I have a night gown on top, for after birth, and
a pair of yoga pants and large t-shirt for before birth.

Super soft silky robe.

Two maxi dresses for going home/recieving visitors if we have
any come by.

Sleep nursing bras. The left is a Lamaze and the right is a
Motherhood Maternity.

A normal nursing bra.

The second bag that I packed has EVERYTHING else. Tolietries, food, paperwork. I stuffed it all into this poor Target bag lol. Everything inside is organized into smaller bags. The last thing I need is to be in the middle of a contraction and Hubs asking me where something is lol. I'm trying to prevent potential labor induced murder while I try and give birth.

The poor Target bag!

Stuffed to the brim!

The food stash plus two waters

(Clockwise from the top left) Blue Diamond Wasabi flavored
almonds, A baggie full of Cliff bars and honey sticks (I heard
this is a great source of energy while birthing), banana chips,
3 gopicnic lunch packs (I LOVE these lunch packs. They are like
a meal for me, moreso a snack for Hubs. That's why he gets 2 lol),
and lastly, Monsters for Hubs.

Dental Hygine Kit

Lots of travel sized dental care products :)

One of those rice/bean filled pillows, for relaxation purposes.

A baggie of maxi-pads. I know the hospital gives them, but I
brought some incase they were uncomforable for me.

Mini wet bag filled with mama cloths I bought from
Kelly's Closet

For those who don't know, mama cloths are resuable cloth
pads. I know it sounds kinda gross, but thinking about it, I
figured I'd give it a try. I mean, we wash clothes when there's
period leaks. What's a designated pad going to hurt?

A folder with paperwork, Bradley
workbooks and pamplets.
The bag of hygine :)

Just travel sized body wash/shampoo/conditioner and a mini
loofah.

A bag of misc stuff. I'll divide it into groups that make sense

Relaxation: eye mask, lavender massage oil and anti-stress
cream for the temples.

Misc tolietries: facial wipes, meds for the Hubs, deodarent,
lotion, face moisturizer and Q-tips.

New Mama Bottom Spray. This is for...soothing down there
after birth. I've read about numerous moms that rave about how
this spray really really helps.

Hair! Who can forget about hair!

The third bag is the diaper bag, but that's it's own post. You can read about my Diaper Bag [Hospital Edition] here!

The last bit that we have packed pillows. I have a Boppy pillow to help with nursing and two regular pillows. I like fluffy pillows and I want to avoid discomfort with flat hospital pillows. Plus the pop of color should be a moral booster (and prevent the hospital from taking my pillows!) The things that we'll be bringing that aren't packed are my camera (and it's charger!), our phone chargers and laptop. Is it kinda dorky that i plan on bringing Frozen and playing "Let it Go" while I deliver? I think it would be a good moral booster but Hubs begs to differ.

What's in my Diaper Bag? [Hospital edition]

A big part of nesting is packing for the hospital, I think. The diaper bag I packed is specfially for the hospital stay. I plan on changing it up when we come home :) To see what else I packed for the hospital, check out this post here.

My Timi & Leslie Diaper Bag. I scored this off of Zulily with
all the accessories for a wopping $99! (versus $250+!)

A peak of the inside

I packed 2 swaddling blankets and a recieiving blanket. I know
the hospital will give us some, but I wanted some cute ones
for the pictures and stuff :)

A baby care kit. I've heard that some babies have super long
nails and I have a stinkin' suspition that Baby Turtle is going
to be one of those babies.

A sun hat to protect her from the hot AZ sun

Nursing cover

Extra sleepers for the hospital, just in case
extra hat

Baby Turtle's going home outfit. Its so cute and girly~!

Her back-up going home outfit, in a size
0-3 months, in case she comes out to be
too big for her NB outfit.

The Mama clutch that came with the bag

Inside the Mama clutch, i just have a nursing bracelet, to keep
track of which side we nursed on last, the stroller straps, and
some reusable cloth nursing pads.

Now on to what's in the side pockets!

The changing pad with some disposable NB diapers and Honest
Company travel sized wipes.

I have an extra set of wipes and diapers just in case Baby Turtle
is like her dad and has crazy bowel movements XP

I have some Honest Company full sized nipple balm, hand
sanitizer and sunscreen.

Honest Company travel sized healing balm, face + body lotion,
and shampoo+ body wash. I got these in a sampler set so I
packed them to give Baby Turtle her bath while in the hospital.

Craft Alert! Customized 12 Month Picture Frame

So I bought this Pottery Barn Kids 12 month picture frame off of a Facebook Swap Page for $7. But I didn't realized a few things. First, it had a name pre-printed on it. Secondly, there were some marks on the matting that I didn't see in the post. But I already bought it and didn't want to go through the hassle of either returning it or trying to reselling it. So I had to get my creative juices flowing!

The original frame

Jo-Ann was having a sale on some fabric and I found a really cute print that would match the color scheme of baby turtle's room. (Pink and grey) I got half a yard for $0.67! What a steal!! I was contemplating just getting a quarter yard, but I figured it would be good to have extra for mistakes. When I got home to measure and check, I found I had enough to cover the mat twice. Perfect! And I already have an idea set in mind for the extra fabric...if I don't mess up the first time :)

The fabric is a light pink with grey flowers

Close up of the print

So the other materials I used for this project are:
* Scissors
* Pencil
* Scotch Tape

Steps:

1. Lay the mat on the fabric, face down. (Optional, you could iron the fabric before starting. I kinda forgot to until it was too late)

2. Cut around the mat, giving yourself about 1 inch of excess fabric. This doesn't have to be an exact measurement, it's all going to get tucked away and hidden from view. You just want enough to be able to fold over the mat and secure down.

3. Using a pencil, trace the mat onto the fabric. You could also use a pen or marker, but make sure that it doesn't bleed though the fabric. All the pens and markers I had bled though, so I resorted to the trusty pencil.

You can barely see it, but there are penciled in squares!

4. From the corner, cut to the corner of the traced mat outline.

  5. The next few steps are going to be fun 3:) First, cut an "X" from corner to corner of the largest traced square. I did this by snipping a random cut in the middle and working outwards from there. Try not to go past the corners marked if you can't avoid it. Repeat this for all the little squares. Remember, patience!

The biggest square is always the easiest

6. Lay the mat on the fabric, lining up the traced lines as close as possible. Start by folding in the outer edges and securing them with tape. For the short ends, this is what I did:

Long sides are folded over and secured.

Take the corner that's sticking out and fold it inwards.

Fold over the entire edge and secure with tape.

All outer edges secured!

7. Next step is to tackle the individual squares. My method of attack was to fold over the triangles that would fit into the frame without cutting. For the big square, I just folded the triangle in. I just taped the triangles down.
I folded the triangles since there was room to fold/tape them.

The perimeter is secured!

8.  The next part is time consuming, you have been forewarned!! Fold over the triangles and cut off the portions that hang over. Erg, this is better seen than said. Pictures!

Fold over the triangles

Snip the part that hangs over. Leave enough to secure down with tape!

Do it to both sides and tape down.
Make sure the tape doesn't hang over into the actual frame.
You'll be able to see it from the outside.

Repeat for all sides.

One square down! 11 more to go~!

9. The finished taped down product!!

I ended up adding extra long strips of tape for some extra security.

The mat is now customized and adorable!

10. Put the covered mat into the frame! Now baby needs to pop so I can start putting in pictures!
